LOL well you were right to the co-champ with the higher powerpoints is the team that goes I was thinking that the co-champ think took the auto bid out of the equation (which it does not)

They posed it on the CD board and I wasn't exactly sure. I thought PP took it though.

You'll be one lucky man, Bob, if Pound makes the playoffs.

    BRISTOL HERALD COURIER

Prep coaches start poring over more than game plans by late October.

    Just ask Honaker's Doug Hubbard.

Minutes after his team rallied for a 14-7 win last week over Virginia High, Hubbard learned that Haysi and Gate City had lost, giving his team a major boost in its push for a Region D, Division 2 playoff berth.

"We could be closer to the top than to the number four spot," Hubbard said when asked if Clintwood's overtime victory over Gate City could hurt Honaker.

Turns out the 24-year head coach was correct. Honaker moved from a tenuous fourth to a solid second on the VHSL Rating Scale ? just eight-tenths of a point behind No. 1 Haysi ? and has a decent chance to claim the No. 1 seed for next month's playoffs.

Playoff position is almost set in stone for a few teams, such as Richlands, J.I. Burton, Tazewell and Appalachia. Most of the rest who aspire to play next month still have work to do, whether it's to earn a home game or just to get in.

    Region IV, Division 4

Carroll County is one-tenth of a point ahead of Magna Vista, but the Cavaliers' hold on the top spot may be shaky. They travel to Richlands next Friday, then close the season at home in what may be a coin flip game with Graham.

Abingdon is fifth, 2.3 points behind Bassett, and has winnable games remaining with Lee tonight and at Marion on Nov. 3. But the Falcons might be out of luck even if they go 6-4, thanks to their Sept. 30 home loss to Honaker.

    1. Carroll County 17.9, 2. Magna Vista 17.8, 3. Martinsville 16.5, 4. Bassett 16.2.

    Region IV, Division 3

Barring an unthinkable three-game losing streak to end the regular season, Richlands will be the top seed. In fact, the Blue Tornadoes could lose two of the last three and still have a good shot at finishing atop the rating scale.

Tazewell seems to be a lock to finish No. 2, especially since it should be favored in its last three games. Graham and Virginia High are fighting for the 3-4 spots; the winner of next Friday's game in Bluefield will avoid a first round matchup with Richlands.

    1. Richlands 22.0, 2. Tazewell 19.3, 3. Virginia High 16.0, 4. Graham 15.9.

    Region C, Division 2

Lebanon is in good shape to earn home field advantage until the state finals. The Pioneers are almost a full point ahead of Giles and are benefitting from a non-district schedule which includes Tazewell and Richlands.

Chilhowie will need help to earn the No. 4 spot. It trails Floyd County by three-tenths of a point and must win its last three games, including a trip next week to Rural Retreat, to harbor any hopes. A Floyd County loss wouldn't hurt, either.

    1. Lebanon 17.4, 2. Giles 16.5, 3. Glenvar 15.5, 4. Floyd County 13.0.

    Region C, Division 1

Even with three losses, Rural Retreat still holds a narrow lead over Bland County. The Indians should be favored in their last three games, but need to take care of business to earn home field advantage.

Northwood is four-tenths of a point behind Covington for the last spot. The Panthers' postseason hopes could come down to their Nov. 3 game at arch-rival Chilhowie, which could be just as desperate for a win.

    1. Rural Retreat 12.1, 2. Bland County 11.8, 3. Eastern Montgomery 10.7, 4. Covington 10.4.

    Region D, Division 2

Haysi's loss last week at Lee High threw this division up for grabs. While the Tigers should finish 9-1, their soft schedule means they won't get as many rider points from their opponents as other schools.

Honaker is in good shape for a berth and could finish No. 1 if it beats Tazewell at home Nov. 3. One of three good Lonesome Pine District schools ? Powell Valley, Gate City or Clintwood ? could get left out despite a winning record. The Greenwave are currently odd team out, as they're one-tenth of a point behind Gate City.

    1. Haysi 15.3, 2. Honaker 14.5, 3. Powell Valley 14.4, 4. Gate City 13.4.

    Region D, Division 1

J.I. Burton is a virtual lock for the top seed and Appalachia should be No. 2, even though both still have games left with Gate City. The Bulldogs also play Powell Valley, but boast a comfortable lead over third-place Castlewood.

Despite a home loss to Ervinton last week, the Blue Devils still own a three-tenths point advantage over the Rebels. St. Paul is 1.6 points behind Ervinton for fourth, meaning it must win out and hope for help from the likes of Rye Cove and Haysi, which still are on the Rebels' schedule.

    1. J.I. Burton 18.6, 2. Appalachia 15.3, 3. Castlewood 12.0, 4. Ervinton 11.7.

    [ QUOTE ]
Castlewood will beat TS and get at least a share of the CD Championship......While a distric champ gets an automatic playoff spot a co-champ does not so Ervinton must beat RC and TS must beat Castlewood for Ervinton to get the automatic bid (But you are right it is possable)

[/ QUOTE ]I'm gonna be pulling for Ervinton in the CD.
